Satterfield-Davis Auxilary

The Satterfield-Davis Auxiliary provides opportunities for fellowship, creative expression and ministry to its members, the church family and the community. In an effort to fulfill its mission, the Auxiliary sponsors several activities including:

  • Coffee/Breakfast Hour after Sunday morning 8 AM service on the 1st Sunday in September
  • Contribute to church anniversaries and select church programs
  • Annual May Fellowship and Holiday Social for Auxiliary members

One of the activities that the Auxiliary showcases is a Fashion and Talent Show Fundraiser which highlights the talents of church members and the community including members of the local police force. Future plans include dinner theatre productions and community outreach in addition to our ever-popular fashion/talent shows.

The Satterfield-Davis Auxiliary was organized in 1934 by Mrs. Annie Hodges during the pastorate of her husband, Reverend V. C. Hodges. In the early years, membership consisted of young women who served as missionaries. In January 1956, the name of the organization was changed to Satterfield-Davis Club, in memory of Mrs. Agnes Satterfield, an elderly missionary lady who worked untiringly to keep the Missionary Society at the foremost thought in the minds of the young and old. The organization was also named for Mr. Charles Davis, a member of the Senior Choir and Superintendent of the Sunday School.

After changing the name of the organization to the Satterfield-Davis Club, young men were invited to join and participate in the presentation of dramatic programs to raise money. The drama, Slave Maid of Israel, was the first drama presented, starring Earlie Grandy and William Strudwick. Other dramas followed; two of them were Over the Hill to the Poor House, starring Lucille Baines and W. S. Taylor, and the Bishop's Candlestick, starring W. S. Taylor.

In 1993 the name was changed to Satterfield-Davis Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is no longer affiliated with the Women's Missionary Society and men are encouraged to become members. Its major focus today is to expand creative expression and ministry to its members, the church family and the community. The Auxiliary meets at 11 AM on the 3rd Saturday in January, March, May (Fellowship), July, September, and November (Holiday Social).

Due to the pandemic, the Auxiliary is currently holding virtual meetings on Thursday at 7 PM in lieu of the Saturday meetings.
